a sweet gift for a sweet new year

For the "Rosh Ha'Shana" (the Jewish new year) feast, we were invited to my husband's brother-in-law's family. I decided to bring them a special gift this time, instead of the boring household items people bring every year.
The concept: a gourmet basket of home-made treats (for a sweet new year), including a variety of cookies, candied lemons, chutney and lemon butter.
I made 4 kinds of cookies - aznac cookies, chocolate-chips & peanuts cookies, granola cookies and dutch butter cookies. I wrapped each kind of cookies cellophane, tied with rafia, and attached a note explaining what kind of cookies there are in the parcel.
I made candied lemons and wrapped them the same way I wrapped the cookies.
I made lemon butter and dried fruits chutney. I poured each concoction into a small jar. I wrapped the lids of the jars in brown paper and tied with a coarse string. I adorned the brown paper with golden dots, and attached a note explaining the contents of the jar and how to store it.

I padded a basket with dried poutpouri, in autumn colors and with a smell of apples and cinnamon. I put the cookies, the lemons, the chutney and the butter in it, and added 2 small white candles.

everything was then wrapped in cellophane and tied with rafia. I added a small note wishing them a sweet new year.

the hosts were very touched by the gesture.
