If you read our story, you already know that David proposed to me on April 1st 2002, our 3.5 years anniversary.
A few weeks before that, we talked about going to a restaurant that we both love and frequent quite a lot. A week before the event, we discovered the restaurant will be closed at that date. David suggested we'll go to another restaurant, which has private rooms, and tried to convince me it would be great. Since he was so persistent, I said OK.
A-Ha! But he wouldn't fool me! It wasn't like David to be so persistent about such a thing. I was completely and utterly sure he was going to propose to me that night. Being a realistic, I tried not to get my hopes too high, so I wouldn't get disappointed.

Finally the important evening came. The restaurant was at a walking distanced, so we walked. I was a bit nervous, but tried to hide it, and David was as merry as a lark, like he has not a worry in the world.
We ordered the main course, ate it (the food was great, by the way), and finished with it. We ordered dessert. David was still as merry as a lark, asked to be excused to go to the bathroom, and left the table.
At that point I was quite disappointed. I was surprised that things didn't go according to my intuition. I tried to relax and not to think about it. I told myself that if it wasn't today, he will propose on another day.

David came back. The waiter came and insisted on taking the empty chair next to the one I was sitting on, although the room was full of other chairs. I thought it was weird, but whatever.
Dessert was served. Next to the cake was a small carton box with a small firework attached to it. The waiter asked whether any of us celebrated his birthday, and I told her we celebrated a 3.5 years anniversary. The waiter left, came back with a camera and started taking pictures of us. I thought - "what a nice restaurant! They want a picture of people celebrating in their place, so they can hang it on the walls or something". I was a bit embarrassed by this, but smiled to the camera.
Meanwhile the firework went out. David lifted the small carton box and asked me - "Honey, what is this?"
Well, "this" was a small red box with a wonderful, most beautiful diamond ring inside.
David got up and kneeled beside me. He told me he loves me more than anything, put the ring on my finger and asked whether I would marry him.
I said YES.

(Later on I insisted on hearing the full story - how did he managed to trick and surprised that untrickable woman - me?
Well, David searched for the ring for 3 weeks, till he found the perfect one. He went to the restaurant in the morning, left the ring and our camera there and set up the whole bargain. They were very nice and immediately agreed to help him.
In the evening itself, David didn't really go to the bathroom, he went to ask the waiter to take the chair, so it wouldn't get in the way when he proposed...)

(We have photos of everything, by the way)
